There’s a bajillion travel websites and blogs already…why this one?
In a sentence: five years of living as an expat in Asia taught me that many of those articles are not written by humans who have actually experienced that country or location.
I came to China eight (eight!!) times before I moved here as an expat. I’d spent a total of 6 or so months of my life in China as a tourist, so I thought that I knew a bit about the country, the culture, and what life there would look like. I was soooooo so wrong.
I very quickly realized that as a tourist, I was participating in so many experiences WITHOUT actually really getting to know the culture or country.
Tourism is kind-of like meeting the love of your life at a club. It’s fun, magical, excitable to the senses, and thrilling.
But travel is like the quiet conversation that later takes place at the hole-in-the-wall bar just down the street. That’s when you REALLY get to know how much of a gem you’ve discovered.

And honestly, there’s a place for both!! Some people may prefer just Option 1–to swing by a place in “tourist mode” without really getting to know who this place really is.
But if you’re like me, and if you travel for more than the nice insta posts and to drink your same glass of wine at a table with a different view just to check a new location off your list:
My friend, you’ve come to the right place.
This blog will focus not just on where to go and what to see, but on the experiences that will let you actually get to know the place you’re visiting.
And I’m so, so excited to help you, whoever you are, with your journey to being abroadable.
Let’s get started!
♥️, Nat
