Planning a trip to Enshi can be tricky, especially with such limited planning resources online. But don’t let that stop you from visiting Enshi! In this post, I’ve provided an Enshi China Travel Map to help you get prepared for your visit!
Why You Need an Enshi China Travel Map
Enshi city itself is quite small. I mean, the airport had only three gates and was smaller than a Walmart. Plus there was a farmer working on his personal row of cabbages right next to the tiny airport parking lot.
Needless to say, there is no lack of character in Enshi!
However, the attractions in Enshi are VERY spread out. As in, 1, 2, or more hours in the car each way.
For this reason, we actually booked hotels close to each site, and hotel hopped almost every day. I really think this is the best way to go, rather than spending half of each day in your car doing round-trip commutes to each tour site.

You’ll see on the map just how far apart some of these sites are! But trust me, it’s possible to do them all in a week if you make some of them a half-day venture and hit two sites in one day.

How to Get Around Enshi China
So you know where to go…but how do you get there? This was one of my biggest concerns when planning our trip to Enshi China.
Thankfully, the solution is quite simple: I recommend that you book a driver for all of your driving needs (and if you need a contact for that, feel free to message me on Insta or at my email address! Both can be found in the menu bar at the top of this blog).
Why not rent/Drive a car? A few reasons:
- You need a Chinese drivers’ license to do so.
- The cliffside roads can get extremely narrow, curvy, and dangerous.
- You’ll be responsible for any damage to the car, and based on what we saw, it’s not all that hard for damage to happen.
Why hire a driver? Won’t it be expensive?
Honestly, no!! In Beijing, we’ll pay anywhere from $60-80 USD for a two-ish hour taxi ride. But in Enshi, you’ll likely end up paying maybe over half of that.
Our private driver would pick us up each morning and take us to our tour site, hang out with our bags in the car, and then take us to our hotel at the end of the day. My estimation is that we paid around $500-600 USD for five days of that service.
Enshi is MUCH less expensive than China’s big cities, so not only is hiring a cab a nice way to get yourself around, but it’s also a boost for the drivers in that area (we ♥️ supporting locals). And let me tell you, they are SKILLED!
Hiring a private driver lets you nap, unwind, and recharge in the car. I thought this was a major bonus as the hiking at some sites is particularly demanding.
