I almost didn’t want to post because of this 🫠

My blog discusses travel destinations, mostly in China where I lived for 5+ years. When I started to post reels about upcoming posts on Xinjiang, SO many random scrollers (who def have never been to Xinjiang) started mouthing off in the comments. (They’re gone, I delete every single one🙃)

Listen: it’s not that I don’t recognize that this region has some controversy around it. It’s just that:

1. I’m a TRAVEL PAGE, not a news site! If you wanna talk drama/news stuff, take it to a news page!📰

2. THE WHOLE POINT OF TRAVEL IS TO SEE THINGS FOR YOURSELF!!! If I only traveled based on where the media said was a perfect country, I probably would have only ever visited Switzerland or something 🤣

Travel requires us to PUT ASIDE OUR JUDGEMENTS AND BIASES and to explore a place with an open heart.

The time we spent in Xinjiang was absolutely AMAZING and eye opening. We fell in love with the local people and culture, and learned so much. 💜🐪🥙

Don’t be afraid, don’t be judgey. Just GO!! 🌎💜

It’s the XINJIANG region in China!

Very few people who’ve been to China have gone to the Xinjiang region, and I think that’s such a shame! ☹️

Some of china’s most unique natural wonders are in its westernmost areas. Not to mention an ENTIRELY different kind of cuisine!!🥙🍶

(And real quick before someone gets yapping: I’m a travel blogger, so if you’re wanting to start a whole dialogue on this region… take it to a news page or something!)

As a tourist, Xinjiang was one of the COOLEST experiences, and I’m so glad I got to go!

Does any of this sound familiar? ⬇️

🏫 In college, I couldn’t travel due to $$$
🧳 I was landlocked for 3 years abroad due to 🦠
🏡 Now I’m in my home country, with international travel out of the question as my husband is waiting for his status to get approved ✅

So what do we do in these situations?

👉👉Since coming back to the US, I’ve been learning that so much of travel is our ✨mentality✨

Why is it that we have to be abroad to meet incredible strangers?

Why is it that we have to travel to find gorgeous sunsets or hiking trails?

I didn’t do too much tourism in the US before. But now I’m digging in fully! And even though I’m not going too far from home, my traveler heart feels full. 💜

You don’t need a ton of money or a crazy international itinerary to get started on your adventures 🫶🏼 You just need the intention of finding a new place, and appreciating the little adventures 💜✨

💜Simply by teaching abroad!

I had just $300 left in my bank account when I moved abroad. Definitely not the smartest way to go about it… but thanks to my teaching job, I had (modest!) paychecks rolling in soon enough!

Living in China meant easier access to new places! Despite being there during the 🦠😷 era, I still got to do SO much traveling within the country.

I know that teaching may not sound like the most glamorous way to go about living abroad. But it provided a strong sense of home, fulfillment from watching students grow, as well as LONG SUMMER HOLIDAYS to travel!!! ☀️🍉

Honestly I think teaching abroad is one of the MOST underrated travel hacks. You literally get paid months off each year to travel, and the steady income means it’s easier to fund your trips 🫶🏼
