6 AMAZING Skopje Sights: MUST SEE Spots!

There are so many Skopje sights to see, but what are the essentials? With just three days to tour Skopje, I was able to cover a lot of ground in a little time. In this post, I’ll share my list of must-see spots with you!

And now, you need a quick and easy list of Skopje sights to visit. One that’s comprehensive, but not overwhelming or impossible.

Good news: I spent four full days in Skopje (one of which was dedicated to my local friends’ wedding) and was able to hit all six of these essential Skopje sights!

So breathe easy: you can do it all!

Skopje Sights: MY Top 6 Recommendations

1. The Millennium Cross: A Local Gem

The Millennium Cross should be prioritized, as it’s one of Skopje’s trademark spots!

In short, this site is cool looking from the city, and AMAZING up close. The view of Skopje (and Macedonia’s beautiful scenery) is especially great from the mountaintop!

2. Matka Canyon: Skopje’s Stunning Nature

I write more about our experience at Matka Canyon in this post. My gosh, was this a breathtaking time!

There are cliffs, caves, beautifully clear waters, and boats to enjoy it all from. It’s peaceful, away (but not too far) from the city, and gives just a taste of what Macedonia has to offer in terms of natural beauty.

In my opinion, this is another non-negotiable, must-do sight in Skopje!

3. Skopje City Center: Where It’s Happening!

If you’re staying in Skopje, odds are you’ll end up here somehow quite organically.

Still, I want to recommend Skopje’s city center simply for the fact that it’s bustling with life and has some great dining options both in the city square and beside the river.

I loved spending evenings just walking or dining near the city center. Locals flock to the area and make it feel so lively and pleasant. Plus, there are some shopping malls, if you’re in need of some goodies!

4. Grand Bazaar: Enchanting and Exciting

Parts of the Grand Bazaar felt like Türkiye making a cameo, especially the baklava shops and other Turkish dessert stores.

The rest of it was overwhelmingly Macedonia, with tons of local dining options, as well as every souvenir conceivable. Plus there were places to exchange money, which had super fair exchange rates!

Whether for your dinner plans, or just a stroll to grab a snack and do some shopping, the Grand Bazaar has you totally covered!

5. Mother Teresa’s House: A Cultural & Spiritual Highlight

This is one of the sites that I didn’t know about until I was in Skopje, but I’m glad we found it!

Mother Teresa is one of two household names born in the region of present day Macedonia (the first is Alexander the Great, which Skopje is sure to let everyone know about).

Not far from Skopje City Center, Mother Teresa’s house and a lovely statue of her provide a bit more insight into her life and into the Macedonia of the past.

6. Skopje City Park: Tranquil, Local Life

Turn off your tourist mode…and go blend in with the locals at their lovely city park.

Don’t get me wrong; I love being a tourist and trying to do and see everything. But I think some of the most meaningful and memorable experiences come from doing as the locals do.

Slow down for a bit by spending some time at Skopje City Park, where you can find natural water fountains, large, shading trees, and local life unfolding before your eyes.

That’s a wrap on my top six Skopje sights! As I said, even if your time in Skopje is limited, hitting all of these sites isn’t difficult. Plus, you’ll get a wholistic view of Skopje’s culture if you see them all. Happy travels!!
