Is Trip.com Legit for Hotels?
You’ve been on the road for hours–first a cab to the airport, a long flight in a stiff seat, and now you’re finally at your hotel.
But at the check in counter, you realize your booking didn’t go through. Or worse: you get hit with fees that weren’t mentioned ANYWHERE in the booking process.
Sound familiar? If you’ve ever been in this kind of situation, it’s not unusual to be on-edge when using booking platforms later on.
So is Trip.com legit for hotels? Can you trust the bookings you make on the app?
Let’s jump right in!
1. Easily Check Policies: What You See is What You Get!
This is probably my FAVORITE feature of Trip.com: it’s readability and straightforwardness.
Before using Trip.com, I had SO many hotel bookings fall through. In China, the country I was in when I discovered Trip, some hotels don’t have the licenses to host foreign passport holders.
So I’d show up after a long, sweaty day on a train or plane, only to have to start hotel searching in the lobby of the hotel I’d booked. Awkward.
With Trip.com, their information on hotels was the MOST up-to-date out of ANY booking app I’d ever used!
Since using them (over a 4 year period on 3 different continents), I’ve yet to have a nasty surprise with my Trip.com bookings.
They have SO much information on each hotel, and their booking and cancellation procedures are all easy to read. Fine print is minimal, and what you see is what you get.
With its straightforward procedures, Trip.com makes booking hotels a legit and easy experience!

2. Great Customer Service for Booking Issues!
I have an entire post written about Trip.com’s customer service HERE!
But to summarize in this post: Trip.com’s customer service is EXTREMELY helpful.
You can chat live on the app with a representative, or call and speak with them if any booking issues arise.
And no, at the moment it’s not AI or a machine that you’re speaking to. It’s real, live people.
In my post about Trip.com’s customer service which I mentioned earlier, I wrote about how incredibly personable my experiences with Trip.com’s customer service have been.
I should mention that they’re not some kinds of wizards who can magically bend rules. If you booked something which didn’t have free cancellation, they won’t be able to pull a refund out of their desk drawers.
But they know their stuff, and when genuine conflicts or problems arise, they’re fantastic to connect with.
Trip.com’s customer service folks are not only quick to help, but genuinely helpful!!
3. Check TONS Of Reviews for Hotels
My FAVORITE aspect of Trip.com is the reviews the app has! This is probably the most LEGIT part of using Trip.com for hotels!
I will say: hotels in America tend to have less reviews on the app than hotels in other countries did.
In Asia especially, Trip.com’s reviews are FANTASTIC because travelers in Asia are really on top of posting photos!
Personally, I usually book based off of customer photos of a hotel, rather than the hotel’s own photos. Customer photos don’t lie!
I’ve booked two hotels in America so far using Trip.com. If a hotel looks promising but doesn’t have many photo reviews, I’ll usually call and talk to them to get an idea for how legit they are.
But even if a hotel on Trip.com doesn’t have photo reviews, they almost always have dozens of customer reviews in text, just without the photos!
Having lots of reviews on a hotel can save the day when booking! It’s always good to know what you’re REALLY getting into before you book!
4. You Can Earn Free Hotel Stays!
Last but NOT least, my FAVORITE part of Trip.com: the earnings on hotels!
With every booking, you earn “Trip Coins” on your Trip.com account. And if you leave a review after your hotel stay, you earn MORE coins.
You can also earn coins by posting “Trip Moments” on Trip.com’s in-app feed. You can literally copy/paste your hotel review (with photos) into a Moments post, and if it qualifies, you can earn more coins!
At this point, I’ve covered several overnights in hotels over the years, fully-funded by my Trip coins which I earned simply from using the app.
The rewards on Trip.com’s app definitely build up and make a difference over time, and you can even earn enough coins to cover hotel stays!
Summary: Trip.com IS Legit for Hotels!!
I’ve been booking almost exclusively through Trip.com for four years now, for trains and hotels, and recently planes as well.
I don’t see myself discontinuing my use of (or love of!) this app as long as it remains such an amazing platform.
So is Trip.com legit for hotels? As I currently only have genuinely fantastic things to say about Trip.com’s hotel experience, I’d say YES!!!
